The State of Qatar participated in the work of the 54th regular session of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States, which was held during the period from 26 to 28 June 2024 in Asuncion, headed by His Excellency Mr. Luis Almagro, Secretary-General of the Organization of American States.

The State of Qatar was represented in the General Assembly meetings by Mr. Ali Rashid Al Kubaisi - Chargé d'Affaires a.i. at the Embassy of the State of Qatar to the Republic of Paraguay.

His Excellency the Secretary-General opened the work of the session, after which His Excellency Luis Ramirez Lescano, Minister of Foreign Relations of the Republic of Paraguay, reviewed the main topics of the session, which are integration and security for sustainable development in the region, and pointed to combating transnational organized crime, violence, human trafficking, and combating terrorism.

The session touched on bilateral and multilateral cooperation and solidarity, strengthening democratic systems, resolving conflicts, and combating climate change, which constitutes another front of insecurity for the peoples of the Americas, especially the Caribbean and Central America.

It is noteworthy that the State of Qatar is a permanent observer at the organization, and believes in the organization’s goals, which seek to spread and consolidate democracy in member countries, defend the principles of human rights, and support regional cooperation among the organization’s countries.
